In-building mobile signal coverage solution-fiber optical repeater

A fiber optic repeater is a mobile signal coverage solution that uses fiber optic cables to transmit the signal from a cell tower to an area with weak coverage.

This is particularly useful in places that are far from a base transceiver station (BTS), but have an existing fiber optic cable network underground.

How it Works

A fiber optic repeater system consists of two main parts:

Master unit (MU) - This unit is installed near the cell tower and receives the signal from the BTS. It converts the radio frequency (RF) signal to an optical signal and transmits it over the fiber optic cable.

Remote unit (RU) - This unit is installed in the area with weak coverage. It receives the optical signal from the fiber optic cable and converts it back to an RF signal. The amplified RF signal is then retransmitted to mobile devices.

Benefits of Fiber Optic Repeaters

There are several benefits to using fiber optic repeaters for mobile signal coverage:

Long-distance transmission: Fiber optic cables have low signal loss, which makes them ideal for transmitting signals over long distances. This is important for reaching areas that are far from a cell tower.

Reduced interference: Fiber optic cables are less susceptible to interference than coaxial cables, which are traditionally used for signal transmission. This helps to ensure a strong and clear signal.

Cost-effective: Fiber optic repeaters can be a cost-effective way to improve mobile signal coverage in large areas, such as buildings, tunnels, and rural areas. This is because they eliminate the need to build new cell towers.

Applications of Fiber Optic Repeaters

Fiber optic repeaters are used in a variety of applications, including:

Large buildings: These can include office buildings, hotels, hospitals, and shopping malls.

Tunnels: Fiber optic repeaters can provide mobile signal coverage in tunnels, such as highway tunnels and railway tunnels.

Rural areas: They can be used to extend mobile signal coverage to remote areas that are not well-served by cell towers.

Basements: Many basements have poor mobile signal reception. Fiber optic repeaters can be used to improve signal strength in basements.
